Sam Scott
Bryn Mawr Film Institute Executive Director
BRYN MAWR
I started at BMFI on the Board of Directors over 13 years ago and chaired the Board for 7 years. During that time, BMFI grew to over 9,000 members, raised over $10 million, built 2 new theaters and fully renovated 2 others. I applied for the job of ED, after Founder and current Board Chair, Juliet Goodfriend, announced her retirement two years ago. I was thrilled to have been chosen for the job to carry on and grow the success that Juliet and the Board had created. My formal activities in the film industry began while working with the late James Card, founder and former curator of the world-renowned motion picture archive of the George Eastman House, (now The George Eastman Museum), Rochester, NY. I received a B.A. degree in Film Studies from the University of Rochester in 1972. Although a business executive for most of my life here in Philadelphia, I spent several years both in exhibition with General Cinema in Los Angeles as well as in production at Warner Bros.
I am a huge believer in building community utilizing the films we show, the courses we teach, and the theater environment we offer. I believe that community has been the key to our success.
